You're right,...we don't usually get ice storms, but this one was crazy. It actually knocked over a large number of the big metal hydro towers. We have a lot of birch trees in our forest and they were bent over like perfect semi-circular hoops with their top branches splayed out and frozen to the ground. Actually, many of them recovered without serious damage. The worst damage was to the sugar maple forests where the crowns of huge trees were weighed down by hundreds of pounds of ice and just cracked off and fell to the ground. Many of the forests around here are still kind of a mess... broken branches so deep that you can't get through them. In winter, the forest profile looks rather terrible... like broken bones against the winter sky...
