the israeli version of CMTN........Orckit Achieves Interoperability with Leading ADSL
Vendors

TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT - news), today announced that it
has achieved interoperability with industry leading chip, DSLAM and CPE vendors. Recently, the Orckit DSLAM system and
modem achieved interoperability with Analog Devices, Alcatel, Centillium, GlobeSpan, ITeX, Motorola, SAS India, Texas
Instruments and 3Com.

Orckit's sustained commitment to industry interoperability is demonstrated in its continued work and contribution with world
standard institutes including ANSI, ETSI, ITU and the ADSL Forum. Orckit has recently participated also in interoperability
testing at the University of New Hampshire laboratories.

''Orckit is already supplying large volumes of its DSLAM systems to major telco's around the world,'' said Dan Arazi,
Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing at Orckit. ''Working towards and achieving ADSL interoperability will ensure a
faster wide-scale deployment of DSL worldwide. This will enable ADSL to become the technology of choice, in the
high-speed Internet access market.''

Orckit's ADSL is currently being deployed in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Orckit's DSLAM uses
KeyWave(TM), the world's first single chip ADSL solution, jointly developed by Orckit and Fujitsu Microelectronics.
KeyWave(TM) fully supports full-rate G.DMT (G.992.1, T1.413 Issue 2) and G.lite (G.992.2) standards.

As a founding member of the ADSL Forum, Orckit will participate in the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2000, in Las
Vegas where the Forum will host an ADSL interoperability event. Orckit will exhibit its latest DSL solutions to the public in the
upcoming ITU's Telecom '99 show in Geneva and is excepted to demonstrate also interoperability with other DSL vendors.

Orckit Communications is a leading company in the field of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solutions, which enable telephone
companies and Internet Service Providers to provide high-speed data services, such as high speed internet access, over the
existing copper infrastructure. Orckit possesses both core silicon expertise and a wide range of DSL products, including its
FastInternet(TM) DSLAM System with ADSL, and its CopperTrunk® (HDSL and VDSL product lines). Orckit has key

<<<Western Digital (WDC) gained 1 5/16, topping the most
active list today. One report says Western Digital might be bought out by IBM at around $10 a share.

Another report from ING Barings notes very strong demand for disk drives, also says September is typically a seasonal time for buying disk drive makers and perhaps the buyers getting an early start this year. >>>>
