COMMONWEALTH TO COMMENCE DRILLING FOR
OIL & GAS IN WYOMING

White Rock, British Columbia
MEDIA RELEASE

Commonwealth Energy Corp. ("Commonwealth" or "the Company") is
pleased to introduce the 2,300 acre ALKALI DRAW PROSPECT located
in Weston County, Wyoming. A test well known as the F24-5 BELTCH
well is scheduled to be drilled in late August, 1999. The
drilling location has been staked and the well will be drilled to
an approximate depth of 5,700 feet.

The F24-5 BELTCH well will target Channel Sand oil and gas in the
Fall River (Dakota) Formation of the Powder River Basin of
Wyoming. The Company is very optimistic about the potential of
this area, which has produced prolific results in the past. An
oil and gas field discovered in 1958 known as Coyote Creek lies
on this same Fall River Trend and has produced to date over 21
Million Barrels of Oil and 25 Billion cubic feet of gas from the
Dakota formation.

The Alkali Draw Prospect was developed by a group of highly
successful Wyoming geologists specializing in Dakota Formation
Channel Sands. Additionally, Electro-Seise Inc. whose data was
used to develop the Camp Colorado Prospect in Texas where
Commonwealth recently drilled a successful well, have completed
a 3D-Airborne Micro-Gravity Survey on the Alkali Draw Prospect.
The two independent geological reports are both very encouraging.

Commonwealth would also like to alert the investment community to
look for the feature on Commonwealth in the upcoming issue of
Market Trend News, which will be mailed on Monday, August 23,
1999 to 28,000 investors and brokers.
