Lucent Technologies leads the ATM Access market according to latest IDC report FOR RELEASE THURSDAY AUGUST 19, 1999 Industry-Leading PacketStarTM Access Concentrator Product Family To Combine Lucent and Ascend Portfolio of ATM Access Products MURRAY HILL, N. J. - Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) remains the market leader in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) access revenues, according to International Data Corporation's (IDC) newly released 1999 "ATM Access Equipment Market Review and Forecast, 1998-2003" report. As cited in the report, Lucent-following the acquisition of Ascend-has a 42 percent share of the ATM access equipment market. Lucent today also announced that it will combine its AC series of access concentrators with the SA series of access products obtained through Ascend to deliver a comprehensive portfolio of ATM access concentrators for enterprise and service provider customers, called the PacketStarTM Access Concentrator family. ATM Access Leadership According to IDC, the ATM access market is expected to grow from $180 million in 1998 to $1.2 billion in 2003 at a CAGR of 46 percent. "The convergence of voice and data is strengthening the appeal of ATM within carrier networks, especially among 'green field' CLECs," said Radha Vichare, research analyst with International Data Corp. "Vendors like Lucent that provide a broad portfolio of ATM access solutions will be in a strong position to help these companies build and run competitive integrated access services." A key strength cited by the IDC report is the ability of Lucent's NavisTM Network Management system to support end-to-end network management. The entire PacketStar access concentrator portfolio will be supported by Navis, providing seamless call set-up between Lucent's ATM access concentrators and switches including the GX 550TM Smart Core ATM switch, the CBX 500TM Multiservice WAN switch, and the B-STDX Frame Relay switches. The PacketStar Access Concentrator Family Lucent's industry-leading PacketStar Access Concentrator family offers industry-leading flexibility that allows service providers to support any service-ATM, Frame Relay or Circuit Emulation-over any channel within the same T1/E1 line simultaneously, even at the DS3 level. The portfolio will meet a variety of enterprise and service provider needs: The PSAX 20 and PSAX 50 (formerly the AC 20 and the SA 50) are designed to support the small customer premise equipment/customer located equipment (CPE/CLE) market The PSAX 100 and PSAX 600 (formerly the SA 100 and SA 600) support the large CPE/CLE multi-tenant market, and The PSAX 1200, PSAX 1250 and PSAX 2300 (formerly the SA 1200, AC 120 and AC 230 respectively) support the carrier central office market.
