ONdigital viewers to get e-mail on TV sets
Date:19-Aug-99

LONDON, Reuters [WN] via NewsEdge Corporation : Scottish Telecom, an arm of utility group Scottish Power Plc , said on Wednesday it will provide electronic mail on TV screens to customers of digital broadcaster ONdigital.
Scottish Telecom said its contract with ONdigital was through its subsidiary Demon Internet, the second largest web host in the UK.

ONdigital's subscribers will be able to access e-mail and other interactive services through a set-top box or with integrated digital television, avoiding the need for a personal computer.

In a statement, Scottish Telecom said the e-mail facility would be available later this year.

ONdigital, launched in November last year, is jointly owned by Granada Group Plc and Carlton Communications Plc . It had 247,000 subscribers by July, about one-fifth of the number of digital subscribers who have signed up with its main rival BSkyB .
