There is some suggestion above that Ameritrade may be losing marketshare to ETrade. It's not a suggestion, it's actually true and the gap has been widening. Just take a look at their account growths over the last quarter. ETrade has picked up more accounts in the last 6 months than Ameritrade has total. That's why, ETrade would never merge with an Ameritrade. There is no money in it other than taking them out of the competition and even that's not worth the money. ETrade forever. df
