David: Try these for phone pictures and Bernie has commented that they worked very hard with the Service Providers to get at a phone they wanted. He does not see the phone changing anytime soon.

The company claims a typical phone mass of 12 oz, which I believe is closer to 75% of Iridium's handset mass...from published info, I find it difficult to do an apples to apples comparison, because it's not clear for example (assuming 12 oz and 16 oz are the right numbers for G* and Irid respectively) that the talk/standby times are comparable. One poster has suggested that G*'s mass advantage comes mainly from settling for smaller batteries. The 12oz mass is listed alongside of a 60 minute talk/360 minute standby time on on Loral web site (5/99 presentation).
