It is illogical to try and time a takeout based on when previous takeouts were announced. Earnings releases, options expirations and other dates of interest to the markets are of no consequence to the dealmakers.

Most takeouts are announced Monday because the dealmakers are required by the SEC to take reasonable measures to ensure that information is distributed to all investors at the same time.

The dealmakers meet on weekends to avoid arousing suspicion from the staff - who are presumably home mowing lawns or doing whatever. Doing the paperwork over the weekend ensures that the administrative and clerical people who prepare the "last mile" paperwork don't get involved until it's too late for a leak to benefit anyone.

However, leaks to happen. Best bet is to watch the short list of in-play targets during the last hour on Fridays, with particular attention to call options activity.

Nothing always works, but when this one does the payoff is nice.

Good luck to all.
