Traveler, there's a difference between a marginable stock and a stock that sits in somebody's margin account. I only needed to borrow the latter, regardless of the former.

While many discount brokers have house rules against shorting BB stocks and stocks below $5, others don't. Schwab will let you sometimes if you try hard, but you might have better luck with brokers that clear through Pershing. These include DLJ Direct, Yamner, and Vanguard.

There's nothing supernatural about that. In fact, it's quite easy.

Now how about that stock price? And how about good old Hayseed? It all reminds me of this:
