Up until about '58 they were injections with dull needles.

And no worry about that, since at that time it was still believed by many that it was okay for children to learn to take pain and deal with it. So they hurt. That was life; grow up. I had a dentist who didn't use any novacaine or pain medication. And I had bad teeth. She drilled and filled on live nerves. It was good for us to learn to take it. (She also had a horsehair sofa in her waiting room that pricked your legs when you sat on it.) Is it any wonder out generation grew up hating to go to the dentist?
