DJ, from your posted article write-up:

<<In addition, the company sold its stake in Santa Cruz Operations (nasdaq: SCOC) at a loss, which is another penny off the net income statement. If you take into account
these two numbers, the company's actual earnings are 18 cents a share, or up 157% from 7 cents a share in the fiscal third quarter 1998.

Novell also gave a nice guidance for the fourth quarter ending November 30, 1999. The company says that by end of the fourth quarter it will sell its stake in Corel Corp. (nasdaq: CORL) as well, which could add another penny to the earnings, estimated at 9 cents a share. >>

Zacks has 7 analysts estimating 17 cents for 4Q according to this link.

Also, I'm confused about sale of Santa Cruz and Corel shares during 3Q as it counts against reported earnings. I heard on CC that the combined loss for both of these sales was $9 mil and $16 mil respectively. Anyone tracking this information closely? That would offset 7 cents of earnings by itself, in addition to the changes in inventory methods. TIA, QuadK
