You will recall my ventings about the young motorcyclists using the vacant lot next door as a motocross track? And how we thought everyone had agreed that the activity would stop, but then it started again and the whole neighborhood was up in arms and there was no relief in sight because the lot is shaped kind of goofy so someone buying the lot and building on it was out of the question?

Last week I looked out the bedroom window early in the morning and saw a guy starting to clear the lot. Neighborhood beautification, I thought to myself. Only to find out taht someone has bought the lot and is going to build a house on it. What a happy day. Problem solved without the need for conflict.

I was a frosh at ISU in 1979 and remember the nasty storms that winter very well. If you remember, the university used to keep the "big" north end bleachers for Horton Field House outside, and only brought them in if they were needed for a big game. So we had a game scheduled with DePaul (the year they went to the Final 4) and they sold a bunch of tickets and needed the big bleachers, but 3 days before the game it snowed and iced and there was concern that the bleachers couldn't be brought inside. They managed to somehow clear the snow and ice and bring the bleachers in. I sat in that section for the game and it is still the only time I froze my ass off at a basketball game.
