VCD's are usually in mpeg format. I know that there are mpeg players for Linux, so I would assume that VCD's could be played in Linux.

VCDs mean nothing to me. I've not specifically gone out of my way to look for them but I've only seen them for sale one place (Best Buy), and I don't think they carry them any longer.

Linux does not do DVD movies. I have an old computer sitting in my entertainment center running Win98 that I use as a DVD player, using the Logitech DVD drive and decoder card. If I could I'd put Linux on that machine. I can't.

USB will be supported in Kernel 2.4, according to Mr. Torvalds.
