The 15:1 ratio is definetely impressive.

The G* web page answers my question re: G* to G* calls also going through the gateway.

Does anyone know if a 3rd China gateway is in the works?

No, I don't think so. I used diameters for both terrestrial cells and GWs. Your calculations use G* GW radius but cell diameter (as given in NYT) which is skewing your ratio by a factor of four; I believe the ratio of 60:1 is arithmetically correct.

Sure, if your want $/sq mi, you have to multiply by pi & divide by 4, but for purposes of computing the ratio, it doesn't matter.

RS- i was wrong!

> G* cost/area = 150M/ 3.14 * (1500)^2 =$21.23/sqmi
> Cell cost/area = 100K/ 3.14 *(10)^2 =$318.47/sqmi

I used radius for G* and diameter for Cell. Arghh.

correction:
Cell cost/area = 100K/ 3.14 *(5)^2 = $1273.89/sqmi

You are correct, the ratio is 60:1.

I should never question a rocket scientist's calculations!
