The 10 day outage was a black eye for WCOM and LU, but for LU I see it as a knock out. They are the ones that were expected to correct the problem and they additionally had to prove that they could operate in the big league with IP just like CSCO. I don't remember any such similar outage of such duration and consequence except in novels concerning terrorist's plots or Y2K horror stories.

Someday it might happen to CSCO, but so far it has not. I will assume it is because CSCO has a better handle on preventing such a possibility. This assumption may be incorrect and if it should happen, then we will all have to eat humble pie and start afresh with a new network technology that precludes such an Achilles heel. A networked world with such inherent instability is as problematic as a driver who suddenly find he cannot see or hear while driving.

A revamping of technology would be in order and a vendor who provides the cure would be invaluable.

That's my view,
Michael
