I agree with you there. What I said is based on a fixed number of shares. If any company were to have an unlimited float, they'd soon find themselves with a very small investor base. However, with a fixed float, no matter how large or small, EPS is still important to a lot of folks.
OTS: This is why you see a bounce in the share price of a lot of companies the reporting quarter after a split. Some folks see a jolt in the EPS and react, thinking the jolt is due to a change in earnings not a change in the float.
