Article in Barron's. Admission to S&P 500: Garnick also believes that Telephone & Data Systems, First Tennessee, Old Kent Financial, T. Rowe Price and ServiceMaster have a good shot at admission into the S&P 500. She notes that merger activity alone should create seven openings in the S&P 500 between now and the end of October, with Mobil, Ameritech, King World Productions and Frontier dropping out owing to pending mergers. Global Crossing, which is merging with Frontier, could get Frontier's slot.
