Patrick -
8 processor systems are the largest that current Intel chipsets support, so DELL is unlikely to offer anything larger until Intel develops bigger chipsets.

DELL announced pricing for their 8-ways - a system with 8 processors is $125,000. The same system from CPQ is $80,000. DELL had said they would price these systems aggressively but the initial offering is 50% higher... what gives??

Keep in mind that CPQ co-developed the 8-way chipset with Intel. That means DELL (and every other OEM who produces an 8-way system using the Intel Profusion chips) must pay CPQ a royalty on each system shipped. I don't know what that amounts to, not much probably, but it is an interesting marketing point.

I hope DELL gets some good benchmark numbers out on their 8-way architecture and gets the pricing fixed - this is a critical market for DELL.
