Well Amazon sells the Anarchist Cookbook which is banned in a lot of bookstores in Berkeley so maybe they have a "we sell anything" policy to go along with their worlds biggest bookstore image? Now that amzn is mainstream they are going to have to drop some of these controversial titles I suspect.

very interesting question, I was struck by your question :-)
let me take a stab at it

1) German are more prone to incitation? like easily whipped into a frenzy, this is probably not it, there are wackos everywhere
OR
2) US has Jerry Springer that already alternate one Klan show and one Skinhead show every two weeks, people are pretty much numbed, who wants to buy a book and read about it too.
