It keeps us from bouncing around from one design to the other when
someone posts a message link.

Seems to be a one way feature. I sometimes get bounced from classic to beta by a link, but then I have to reenter via the classic door.

I do know that there are people who keep both sites open in different windows--I believe that Terrence Bergh has done it.

I have been able to switch sites, but it can get tricky at times.

BTW, one of the things that bugs me about the "new" SI is that not all of one's PMs transfer!
