To risk one's life for an individual vs. putting one's self out to save the race: I should say that the latter is more important... The fact that it is dangerous for close relatives to mate does not balance against extinction. It is quite possible for even siblings to mate without disaster, as long as there are no genetic problems to begin with. Obviously, it is not ideal, but the circumstances are exigent...Unless you are pretty damned gung- ho on "collective guilt", I do not see how it can be honorable to let the race die out because some people, somewhere, brought about a catastrophe of such proportions. The honorable thing is to not give up....
