Herb Greenberg did a critique of Sepracor that was one of the worst pieces of financial journalism I can remember.

Barb,

Yes, I am aware that Cramer did not write the article. But, you have to admit the TheStreet.com is his baby and that he undoubtedly has editorial control. I'm thinking seriously of shorting TSCM due to the unbelievably poor research that have done on Ancor(plus a hefty P/S of 33) and their poor prospects for reaching profitability soon.

Mind you, I don't take strong exception to anything else that he may have said about Ancor. It is truly a speculative investment where one must weigh risk versus reward in a big way. Also, you noted that Ancor's talent has in the past been relegated to raising money through the sale of stock. That is a very true statement but one that could be made of any company that is solely focused on the ground floor of a discontinuous technological innovation. Their previous attempt at placing fibre channel into the LAN side was definitely a failure due to the easy migration from 100mb ethernet to gigabit ethernet. That isn't an issue on the storage side so IMO this is going to be a huge market. The question then becomes, "does this company have a competitive product and the management to pull off getting at least 30% or so of the market?". I think that it does. If you think that it doesn't then short it because if it gets substantially less than 30%, it will eventually be reflected in the stock price.

And BTW, one doesn't have to be a 'rabid' Ancor shareholder to scoff at Herb's false contention that Ancor is cash poor. Facts are facts and he simply didn't do his homework on perhaps the most important point that he made in the article. Had Ancor not raised additional cash it was clearly a great short. Even the 'rabid' fans of Ancor would agree to that.
