Great post about AOL & their imminent demise

- and given AOL's support for the Clintonistas & slimy DOJ case against Microsoft, all I've gotta say is that it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people

Looking at AOL's year end financials on 30 July 1999; & MSFT's imminent assault, the outlook is bleak at best:

- 1.1 bill shs o/s
- $3.5 bill in cash & investments
- $2.3 bill in long term debt
- $4.8 bill in revenues for the year ending 7/30/99
- $762 mill in net income for the year
- $485 mill loss in 1997
- $74 mill loss in 1998
- eps on fully dilluted basis for '99 was $.60
- stock closed the week at $95; for a p/e of 158

- based on the above, I believe that AOL is a ticking timebomb if MSFT saturates the market with free ISP

- Better yet, the #1 PC seller, Compaq, is now offering free ISP thru AltaVista - it's 100% owned sub

Fascinating article--and I agree with it. Gates, and I say this with complete admiration, is the business version of the Terminator. Nothing stops him. Jill
