Larry: Very pleased to see your viewpoint. And you are of course correct that helping the wounded is a good idea if there is a good chance of recovery. I also agree about your remarks on NOVL - you made an excellent move there. And that the wounded will be helped my be a leg up on getting companies to join SFE - knowing they will get help if they need it.

Yet my experience has been that the best investments have been in companies that are doing best and have everything going for them to do even better in the future. Since you cite NOVL, I will cite QCOM. Qualcomm is a company which has gorilla status IMO. The first true gorilla in many many years.

If SFE had Qualcomm in its stable (it doesn't of course), then concentrating its time, talent and effort on Qualcomm would make sense. Not sure which of SFE's companies might be a future Qualcomm but given the number of possibilites, there may be one or more. Would hope that SFE management would give higher priority to strengthening winners than helping the wounded survive.

Build on strength and sell the weak is a good general rule.

The danger is that SFE thinks of itself as a doctor who heals, as opposed to a generator of winners.

Hope SFE can do both. But also hope winners have priority.

Do you or anyone else have any idea which of SFE's children might be up next for an IPO?
