The nerve center of the world economy, world publishing, the media, and the art world deserves some respect, don't you think? When you look at the state of the world economy (outside of the US), world publishing, the media, and the art world, I frankly don't see a heck of a lot to respect? Crosses in urine passing for "art." Howard Stern passing for media, not to mention that other guy on the radio who got fired from one station for his remark about Princess Diana and promptly picked up by another NY station. Publishing -- I don't see the good books coming out of New York. I strongly suspect that if you gave control of all those things to Ames, Iowa, this world would be a lot better place in a hurry.
