Brian,

It is times like these when we all should reflect on how good we actually have it; too often we forget this.

Great point! I had a personal experience with this last evening.

There are 2 families (the two men are brothers) who have relocated to our area from Kosova. They don't speak the language, work at a meat processing plant vs. farming which was their work back home, have to have people drive them everywhere right now, are living in modest apartments, have 4 or 5 children in each family, etc. Their lives have been turned upside down. They have no hope to return home because of the turmoil and the fact that their farmland was heavily mined. I was stunned hearing this story first hand.

So much that we have is truly taken for granted (health, family, etc.) while we have it.

The good thing about these situations is that a SMALL contribution means so much. I think people believe they have to do a great deal, so they don't get around to doing anything. To avoid this from happening I will be calling for specifics today and buying school supplies for the children.

We in the USA have so much to be thankful for. I often revel at how we have high quality food establishments, compared to the rest of the world, on just about every corner. I remember hearing a story about MCD in Moscow. One of the reasons people like to go there is for the nutrition and quality of the food.
