PB,

<What are "production quantities"? I have a feeling it is nothing like four focused copy exactly fabs can punch out. >

Now, AMD doesn't even have 4 processor fabs. So that is clearly not what I am saying. I think they are shipping tens of Ku at 650MHz speedgrade now. It will be a long while when AMD's production quantities and Intel's production quantities are similar.

<Sharkey seems to think 650's in boxed form won't be available unitl October. If this is the case, I believe you will be in for a rude awakening.>

As far as Sharkey is concerned he had the one of the most downbeat (if not the most downbeat) reviews of Athlon which tells me that there is probably upside from what he has to say. Also, I don't know if availability in boxed form has any relevance. AMD may ship less than 300K (minimum acceptable level for this quarter in my book) but I can tell you the signs so far are pretty good - mom and pop shops are projecting 650MHz system availability in the next couple of weeks.

<<Secodnly, you haven't answered the question. Have you? Do *you* think Intel can keep up on the MHz scale with K7 without moving to 0.13 mid-2000?>

My answer is yes I do, not answering for Paul.>

Thanks for your input. I find is hard to believe but respect your opinion.

Chuck
