I got caught up in my own scenario and interest. I guess I may take from it that you are not in what might me called the "environmentalist camp." I am, however. Why don't you answer your question? I don't think it's an uninteresting one, though it is maybe too vague to be useful. It is already clear that we don't care whether people are suffering and dying from inadequate medical care or poor nutrition in our own country; expanding the question to the species as you have is interesting, but... not very, considering.
