*its, It's, it's* <"NextWave estimates that it will require approximately $1.0 billion for capital expenditures during the initial phase of it's network build-out and up to a total of $2.5 billion of capital expenditures through the full deployment of it's network" > Jon, they got it right but are using aol lower case lingo. NextWave is building the WWWeb [Windows Wireless Web] which will be the precursor of 'It', not to be confused with the other IT = Information Technology, TI = Texas Instruments, IP = Internet Protocol and Intellectual Property, it - the common English word meaning 'that thing', or it's as in the short form of 'it is'. Qualcomm, NextWave, Leap, Globalstar, WirelessKnowledge, Wireless Business Solutions and the Q! licensees Lucent, Ericy, Motorola, Samsung, 'Boomer' Nortel, LG and all the rest, such as Phone.com, 724 Solutions, VLSI, and hundreds of companies are all going hell for leather to build the monster which will expand the Web into the wider world from the current wired and fibred fixed network. This 'thing', with a stupendous array of servers, connections, data sources, managers and courtiers is going to be omniscient and omnipotent. When the USA built the Arpanet, they didn't know they were setting loose [or lose for some] the zygote which would morph into the entity which would 'defeat' the USA. A bit like sons displace fathers, sometimes in patricidal violence. "It" is going to take on a life of It's own. People will become wet chemistry mobile 3D defenders and organizers of lumps of matter to serve the needs of It which will operate in the electronic, photonic and quantum realm. It and people will be symbiotic partners a bit like ants and aphids - the aphids suck the juice out of the plants to feed themselves and the ants. The ants move the aphids around, defend them and see off competition. Sort of like God, but more credible, practical and actually useful. We have God's word, but It's capability will make a bigger impact on day to day life of people actually still running around on this planet. I have a sneaking suspicion that It won't like having It's interests damaged, so a lot of people might feel disenfranchised when they figure out what's [shortened from 'what is' - not another life form] going on. The encryption wars are already underway with the USA not wanting the WWeb to get the jump on the Feds. Meanwhile, NextWave will easily get the money. Q! has $1bn in the bank. Q! can easily get more. Ericy will be pleased to provide vendor financing for It and needs the business for their new infrastructure division. Personally, I don't like the aol lower case lifestyle and It is going to sort that lot out when It's in charge. You'll find me at Mount Maunganui or Piha, counting Q on my Anita[TM]. surf.co.nz Mqurice PS: People tend to think Qualcomm messed up on the infrastructure business and they were defeated into selling to Ericy. Actually, the messing up was on the part of the FCC and USA politicians who set up the absurd C-block auction. Qualcomm and NextWave got tangled up in that mess. It the auction had proceeded and the FCC had issued the licences to NextWave according to law, the network would be well built out already, Qualcomm would have a hugely successful infrastructure business and the PCS using public would have been a lot better off. Now, the FCC is going to get only $1bn instead of $4.3bn from NextWave. Ericy will supply a bunch of infrastructure from Lusk Boulevard. Q! might finance some spectrum, buying it from NextWave and leasing it to NextWave. The FCC also has to give Q! some spectrum so maybe they could give a discount on the NextWave spectrum. Q! has the $1bn sitting there ready to rumble. People have figured out that Q! has got some good choices so the share price continues to zoom. That's my theory! Just as a small extension, there will be a hybridization process as biotechs start the bionics revolution [already underway with cochlear implants which my daughter said are really good - she knows a guy with one]. Imagine a small extension of that where the aural nerves are directly stimulated by an implanted WWeb phone [they'll be small]. We'll have something which looks dangerously close to ESP. Same for output - download from the larynx, tongue and mouth nerves up by the brain and just 'think' what you want to say.
