There are ways of strongly supporting a company other than writing checks. IBM has announced, and their web page supports it, that they're featuring Athlon and minimizing or eliminating Pentium III from their performance consumer line. Pentium III remains featured in their economy series.

I'd call that a lot more than just letting Athlon sink or swim on its own. It looks like support to me.
