Pruguy,
About any free Internet service from MSFT, you comment, DOJ won't care
Sounds right to me. CBS gives away the evening news for nothing, no matter what it costs them.
The more important question is whether MSFT can give away free Internet service. As I've commented before, the last time I figured out how much it cost AOL to provide monthly service, I came up with a number around $17.47. That has no doubt gone up with increased usage. I assume MSFT will have similar costs. How will they pay them? I'm currently at a friend's house and using MSN. When you log on it has very few ads. I seriously doubt MSFT will offer free Internet service just to gain market share. There's no foreseeable breakeven point in that kind of a deal. And in the words of Bill Gates, "Nobody ever accused MicroSoft of not knowing how to make money."
Best,
--Steve
