Folks, I think it is worth reading the TMS extract from the earnings report again. There are a number of points of interest. 1. Cerent already has a beta version of its optical transport platform on the market. TMS only shipped in June, therefore it follows that TMS allowed Cerent to reduce its time to market to only a few weeks. This demonstrates two things. Firstly TMS is here and now and it works. Secondly Cerent must have been straining at the leash to use it in the first place. Cerent BTW is not just some backwater company. Cisco has a stake in them. You can read more about them here.news.com 2. Broadcom is using TMS for its new StrataSwitch. The StrataSwitch would appear to be a very interesting product. It caused Broadcoms stock to rise by about $10 when it was announced last week. techstocks.com news.com 3. TMS has shipped to 14 customers with more to follow. This seems like a rather large number for a product which was released two months ago. This must represent a very large percentage of the total companies involved in network equipment. Perhaps the time to market pressures and the advantages TMS offers has forced all involved into using TMS. Its looks as if TMS has taken over this space almost overnight !!! 4. In the CC Jerry mentioned that TMS was only the first of many vertical markets (total solutions) WIND was going after. Hopefully future total solutions products will get off to as good a start as TMS. Regards JC. "Tornado for Managed Switches (TMS), version 1, was shipped to 14 customers in June. Cerent Corporation has already begun shipping a beta version of its Cerent 454 evolutionary optical transport platform during the quarter. This application demonstrates TMS's immediate viability in the market, and applicability for innovative service provider networking equipment as well as traditional enterprise networking gear. In addition, Allayer Technologies, Ardent Technologies, Broadcom Corporation, MMC Networks, and PMC-Sierra have all licensed Tornado for Managed Switches. Wind River is partnering with these companies, as well as others, to provide OEMs with integrated hardware/software switching platforms for building data networking equipment. For example, Wind River will be providing TMS with Broadcom's recently announced BCM 5600 StrataSwitch platform in order to offer OEMs a complete solution for wirespeed QOS-enabled layer 3 switching"
