Greg, getting rid of pounds shillings and pence, then inches, miles, feet, furlongs, acres, Fahrenheit, gallons [Imperial and US], quarts, cubic feet, bushells, ounces, stones, poundals and hundredweight were great advances in my life.

When telephone numbers are a thing of the past, I'll be happy too. All we'll need to remember is an approximation of the person or place's name, check the list of close urls, click the right one or just say "get the third one on the list". Hey presto, instant IP contact thanks to It knowing all the urls.

Then, when banks are disintermediated, replaced by Q [with 10q to the Q] and Anita[TM] I'll be even happier. Especially since I already have a big heap of them.

Then I'll switch to Web time with 10 ticks to a minute, 10 minutes to and hour and 10 hours to a day, starting at the international date line [not Geneva].

There will be 100 degrees around the earth instead of 360.

PS: Teachers used to ask me, "If 3 pounds of apples costs one pound six and elevenpence, how many guineas would a bushell of them cost if their density was 15 pounds per cubic foot? Suppose their coefficient of thermal expansion is 10 inches per Fahrenheit and they are hexagonally close-packed and that oranges are 10% different from apples, how many oranges could you get into a US gallon and how many miles could your car run on the fermented orange juice if it does 10 miles per gallon?" I can understand why there is a lot of machinegun fire in USA schools where I understand they still teach stuff like that.

Greg,

What you say is true, IMO. The internet is simply a new way to help simplify our lives. It is just the beginning...
