Actually Tony, I think you're both a little off. To me, it's a "Consumer's Market", and that's who holds the trump card. If the consumer/customer demands a Windows platform, then MSFT will have the leverage, and if they're indifferent, MSFT's leverage will diminish over time -- btw, not necessarily a terrible thing. My instincts and experience in the Market tell me that it will likely be a mix of both, varying by customer segment.

That's why I keep coming back to the point about MSFT's management team and resource pool. One has to have confidence in their ability to execute without relying upon monopolistic force in the Market, or one should move their investment into a different issue. I don't think anyone can justify MSFT maintaining their lock on the Market going forward, but luckily, IMHO, they don't need that lock to excel.

How about a little AOLTV?

AOL plans to launch TV channel - report

FRANKFURT, Aug 22 (Reuters) - America Online Inc. Chief Executive Steve Case said in a magazine interview on Sunday that the Internet service provider plans to launch a television channel called AOL-TV.

Germany's Focus magazine reported Case as saying AOL planned to offer e-mail and chat-room services over the channel, which would be screened on television and not over the Internet.

Unlike its competitor Microsoft Corp (Nasdaq:MSFT - news), Case said AOL was not interested in buying up the German television cable network, which Deutsche Telekom AG (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: DTEG.F) is selling off.

However, Case said it was possible that AOL could participate in a German television deal with media giant Bertelsmann AG (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: BTTGga.F), its joint venture partner in AOL Europe.
