While I respect you and your opinion, I respectfully disagree. Having worked in the investment business I can personally tell you I saw 2/3 of all new retail stock accounts get wash out within the learning curve of 2 years. Most of the 1/3 that survived were retirees with largely income positions and buy and hold equity positions, not active traders. < I believe the study is invalid, as I believe the sample group was small, namely a few SOES shops. I do believe that most day traders lose money, > I would agree with you as the whether the study is invalid and would be incline to believe it may have been to small a sampling. <but most traders I know are not day traders, and many do very well. > However, my point was do not take this game lightly, that was the message I wanted to send to our readers, most won't make it (we can debate the exact percentages, but the hard cold facts are most wash out and fail). I would take exception to your assessment that many do very well. In almost 2 decades working in the investment business of the hundreds(mostly likely thousands) pros I worked around, at least 50% of the money managers didn't make it more than 5 years and of the traders and brokers the failure rate was even higher and the time it took to fail was shorter. I would say of hundreds (maybe even more) of pros, I can only remember a dozen maybe 2 dozen at the most that consistently made money real money year after year. And those were the "pros" as far as the retail players goes, I saw thousands come and go. Yea, I saw a few retail guys making $100,000 hits, but most within a couple of years gave it all back, and it most cases more. LzzrdKing, I guess I have been hanging out with the wrong crowd <and many do very well> I'll have to start hanging out with you and your buddies <vbg>. Just one last point, if your relying what your fellow traders are telling you, you should know that by nature traders are much like alcoholics & gamblers, they live in a constant state of denial and lie to themselves and anyone else who will listen. The next time a traders tells you how much of a killing he is making, ask to see his brokerage statements for the last 30 months and I think you fine the truth.
