Eugene:

Historically, sequential eBay auction growth has been highest in the first quarter, and then lower (but consistent) for the next three quarters.

For example, during 1998, it grew at over 120 percent in Q1, followed by 50 percent sequential quarterly growth for the next 3 quarters.

(The prior year had apparently shown similar growth patterns.)

So, unlike everyone else, I do not expect a percentage rise in Q4 much greater than Q2 or Q3.

The good news is that eBay should show strong growth in Q1 of next year.

>>>If the count is the 3 million on 10/1, growth only has to be 33% to hit 4 million by 1/1. This would be a good acceleration from the ~23% quarterly growth being experienced now, but seemingly realistic<<<<

I think that type of growth is very acheivable by chrsitmas. With PC's now being given away there are alot more people getting on the internet and at a much faster rate than anyone assumed. And now computers are cheap enough where a lot of people will be giving them as christmas presents and that will increase the internet traffic even faster. EBAY is a like a baby Walmart here. Hold it and in a few years it's be at 200 after splitting 3 or 4 times.
