We're north of the equator, actually; it cuts through Indonesia.

I used to cut thick slices of that garlic bread, and put a wire grill over the hot coals of a guava-wood fire, and toast it there until crisp. Spread butter on top, maybe some homemade cheese, put a cover over just until everything melts.

Close enough to paradise for me.

During the mountain days I used to bake bread in a wood-fired pottery kiln; the potter (next-door neighbor) had to do a long preheat on it, and in return for a loaf he'd hold it at 375 for an hour. Slight smoky tinge to the flavor of the crust, very nice.
