I did get that part, but I didn't understand how the hypo about the last man and woman on earth had anything to do with environmentalism, really.

It's only because there are a lot of relatively well-off people who care about the environment that the environmental movement exists at all. Environmental protection costs money, at least in the short run. In the long run it probably saves money, but try explaining that to someone who can barely feed his family. It's much cheaper to just dump your garbage in the forest, dump your waste water in a stream, dump your oil in a ditch, dump your old batteries in a lake, dump your bilge in the ocean, etc., etc., etc.

Well, I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. It's far cheaper to smash the coral to get the fish, isn't it?

My point is, the real problem with using the hypo to test our beliefs about environmental protection is, what species is going to go to extraordinary measures to protect the two surviving humans?

Oh, I just thought of a solution to the hypo. Artificial insemination. The lady who finds intercourse with the man objectionable could use a turkey baster, I understand that works quite well. The man masturbates into a coffee cup, and hands it to the lady, who retires to her bedroom and sucks it up with a turkey baster and squirts it inside her. Homosexual men and women do this now, I have read, in order to have children without having sex. Although Michael probably doesn't approve . . . . or Neo, I bet.

Baster comes up red on spell-check, I guess these guys don't do much cooking.
