Interface Systems' eBill Manager and L2i Technology Provide Underpinnings For PECO Energy's Internet Billing, Payment for Residential Customers
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Interface Systems' (Nasdaq: INTF - news) Legacy-to-Internet (L2i(TM)) technology has led to the successful introduction of a new Internet bill delivery and payment system (IBDP) for PECO Energy Company and its nearly 2 million customers in the Philadelphia area.

The IBDP system is the result of successful completion of a pilot project that ran through February and involved many of PECO Energy employees. When it began, the pilot project was one of the first IBDP beta projects between a biller and TransPoint (formerly MSFDC).

``Over the next three to five years we expect Internet bill delivery and payment to become more and more popular with consumers,' said Charlie Gunn, analyst, Customer & Marketing Services, PECO Energy. ``Most experts predict that in about 2004, more than 50% of homes in the U.S. will have personal computers with online access and that is when we expect to see significant increases in the number of households wanting Internet billing services.

``Our IBDP pilot project proved the cost-effectiveness and convenience of the system. Interface and TransPoint did an outstanding job with the pilot, and we believe our customers will find Internet billing to be a very easy way to handle personal finances,' Gunn said.

PECO Energy anticipates as many as 10% of its 1.5 million electric and 415,000 natural gas customers will opt for Internet billing by the end of 2002.

Internet bill delivery and payment is an Internet-based service that securely and reliably delivers richly formatted bills, statements, invoices, notices, and associated advertising to any online consumer or business, and returns payment, remittance instructions, and related information to the biller and/or designated payee.

In the PECO Energy project, Interface served as a systems integrator, joining PECO's pre-existing billing system with TransPoint's Biller Integration System (BIS). Interface's eBill Manager(TM) software serves to integrate billers' (such as PECO) systems with consolidators' (such as TransPoint) systems by delivering information from the biller in the format required by the consolidator. Interface is a member of TransPoint's Internet Bill Delivery and Payment Technology Associate program and is one of seven official TransPoint system integrators for IBDP.

``We are delighted that PECO has instituted this IBDP system for its residential customers,' said Robert Nero, president and CEO of Interface.`` Our expertise with legacy systems and mainframe content has really given us an advantage in this very new and fast-growing field of IBDP systems integration.'
