Ratan:
Yes, U R right.
Pervasive corruption, Complaisance, attitude such as "What do I care if Rama rules or Ravana rules as long as I am thriving", etc are some of the problems. Benign dictatorship is a good ideology, but it soon deteriorates into a malignant version, because power corrupts, and corrupts absolutely. Politics by its very nature is a lot of give and take, unconscionable compromises, cut-throat competition, mud-slinging, character assasination, shifting alliances, and a self-perpetuating entity. For a person to come out of this political muck and shine as a benign dictator, just like the lotus roots come out of the muck in the pond and blossom into beautiful flowers, is a tall order of immense magnitude. Very few people can make the transformation. With what we have in India, I like Vajpayee.
