I have started making mine do chores, like laundry, dish-washing, sweeping, stuff like that. Unfortunately, my own housekeeping is so sporadic, not to say spasmodic, that I can't give them regular assignments, or it would smack of child labor.

Basic piece of advice after one year of male in dorm: Mothers SHOULD NOT enter their sons' dorm rooms after the first day of college. They should meet sons in the lounge, or send fathers or brothers in after sons.

Severe mental health problems are almost guaranteed from a mother stepping into son's college room. You may think that their room at home has prepared you. IT HAS NOT. It is like the difference between the volcanic eruption you did with baking soda and vinegar on a paper mache base in fourth grade science and Mt. Saint Helens.
