Thanks for your response to my posting. I guess the bottom line is that ebay is having some real growing pains and they continue to try to experiment with solutions to the myriad problems arising from their venture. As a buyer I have gotten nearly burned by a seller not
sending a $400 item. After a month of haranguing and complaints she had a change of conscience and refunded my money. As a seller I am continuing to experience auctions which have a winning bidder who takes such a cavalier attitude to their obligation and who can back out for frivolous or no reason leaving me holding the bag. Eventually there will be a satisfactory way to resolve this. Other auction sites require credit card registration and if for some reason, the credit card is not good the second bidder is then obligated to buy. Ebay is not ready for such stringent rules yet.

>>Thus, another thing that may be limiting ebay is their almost cavalier attitude toward their paying customers. I keep hearing horror stories about lack of support, and this most recent situation does not seem like someone thought it out very thoroughly.<<

If $1 per auction hits the pain threshold of the average Ebayer, this concept is in deep trouble. However, even this bad news will be nothing compared to what happens the first time the IRS subpoenas the historical Ebay auction records or requires reporting of auction data ala brokerage firms. Does anyone think this will not happen some day?
