Most of the time I buy companies whose products or services I use or have intimate knowledge of.

After my surgery I was out telling everyone how great it was and that one day no one will wear glasses or contacts. I was visiting India and foudn that laser had reached there also and the cost, a huge $750 (of course it is a very high amount of Rs. 37,000 in their currency).

Then I realized the scope of the market and the decision was obvious.

Similarly, I couldnt live without Yahoo which i used from the day they came to market, long before they even had venture capital, another easy decision.

EXDS was interesting because i used to communicate with the exds technology officer on Intel Internet Phone, when he was worth -25000 on his credit card as opposed to being worth over $100 mil now.

JNPR - I read the bio of the founders and how everybody and their mother was throwing money at them just to get advanced info on their technology.

Of course i have made a few mistakes. But everyone of them was done by investing in cos. i knew very little about. Or for short term or overvalued by the time i got to them.

I think if everyone honestly posts the co. of their choice and why they are excited about it, we will all do very well.

There are always periods of time when i have no long term investment ideas. I would love to invest in cos. that create excitement in someone if I understand that excitment and can be swayed.

At the moment I know of no co. that creates excitement in me. Soon there will be one called EPINIONS.COM and maybe ECREDIT.COM which will go public. I will be here then.
