I'm with you, PJ. Sorry I can't add any technical dialogue to the discussion, but I sure do wish some of us would tone down the government phobia. (I've been hearing this stuff ever since the John Birch Society showed up in the 50's, yet our culture continues to thrive.)

Granted, we all need to join in figuring out a way to find a balance between privacy and the public good. We might be better served to work toward a solution than to look for a villain.

IMO.

"Besides let the government read my hard drive, there's nothing incriminating there"

Strange isn't it. When the government was suspicious of the researcher at Los Alamos, they just somehow couldn't get a search warrant to inspect his computer---even though it wasn't even his computer but the governments in his office at the lab.

On the other hand what you have expressed is the willingness to let the government inspect your hard disk because you have nothing to hide.

I guess they will catch you and not him.
