Election news on the web-ToI to set up site for poll coverage

Our Mumbai Bureau (Times of India)
23 August

IN ORDER to provide comprehensive on-line coverage of the forthcoming general elections in the country, The Times of India will be setting up a website where surfers will get everything they want to know about the election scenario from the national perspective down to the state and constituency level.

Accessible from timesofindia.com and elections.timesofindia.com, Elections India is built to help the surfer keep in touch with breaking news from the political battlefield, a release said. To make things simpler for surfers, the site sports a user-friendly navigation system. It also includes several sections that provide background information to the surfer on Indian politics. A section titled Election Educator will explain "politicalese", while a search database aims to provide as complete a picture of Indian politics as possible ? beginning from the first general elections in 1952.

The site attempts to relieve surfers of boredom by incorporating certain lighter sections. For example, a surfer can find out whether he or she will ever make a "perfect neta", or check out the latest political jokes. The surfer can participate in Elections India Master Poll, choose his dream cabinet or cast his vote everyday on the Poll of the Day. He could re-live the week that was in pictures through the photo-gallery or help create the nation's voice on the message boards, and so on.
