Iridium to Assist Turkish Search and Rescue Effort

Satellite Pioneer Offers Phones and Airtime to Assist With Disaster
Relief

WASHINGTON, D.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 1999--Iridium LLC announced that last week it flew 25
hand-held Motorola Satellite Series 9500 portable phones to Turkey, where they are being used to support the Turkish
government's search and rescue efforts following last Tuesday's tragic earthquake.

The Iridium service phones, which can operate independently of local terrestrial infrastructure, have enabled Turkish military
personnel to communicate throughout the devastated area and to coordinate search and rescue operations even in the most
remote locations. Washington-based Iridium LLC is providing free airtime and regional partner Iridium Africa Corporation is
paying for the phones and the associated landline costs. Both ILLC and IAC are providing on-site support to the Turkish
government.

``We are deeply saddened by the tragic events in Turkey and feel we are in a position to provide some urgently needed
help,' said Chairman of Iridium's Board Robert W. Kinzie. ``We are committed to making our services available to support
this vital rescue effort.'

The unique design of Iridium's network allows calls to bypass terrestrial outages and to deliver reliable communications in
such disaster relief situations. The phones will also enable the rescue teams to stay in touch even as their search extends
beyond existing cellular and wireline coverage.

Previously, Iridium and Motorola teamed to provide satellite phones and service to Central American governments and relief
agencies in the wake of Hurricane Mitch, as well as to humanitarian agencies assisting refugees in the recent Balkan conflict.

Iridium LLC became the world's first global satellite phone and paging company on November 1, 1998. Its network of
66-low earth orbiting satellites, combined with existing terrestrial cellular systems, enables customers to communicate around
the globe. Iridium World Communications, Ltd. (NASDAQ: IRID - news) is the public investment vehicle of Iridium LLC.

Iridium is a registered trademark and service mark of Iridium IP LLC. Motorola and Satellite Series are registered
trademarks of Motorola.

Nice Bensche quote. "We also question who would want to buy a phone from a company in bankruptcy, especially with Globalstar expected to commerce commercial service in the next 6 weeks."
