I think, I hope, that said med students marry their high school sweethearts, and then after all the years of hard work and sacrifice, find themselves unable to resist the newer models that are attracted to them once they are actually MDs. This all too human weakness may not reflect well on said gentlemen, but it's better than thinking it was planned. My dad, who is a dentist, married my mom when she was 16 and he was 18. She put him through dental school, and he was actually in practice for six years before he dumped her. After playing the field 24/7, he married a blonde who took him to the cleaners. But I don't think he planned to go to dental school, nor dump my mom, when he married her. And his brother, also a dentist, is still married to wife number one. My dad is still paying my mom alimony, she did cut a sympathetic figure in court.
