I agree that critical mass is everything. However, what if a
meta-auction were available to buyers? Take a look at www.acses.com and apply the concept to auction sites rather than book sites.

Sarge - I'm not a seller on ebay, but I buy stuff. The concern I have is that ebay's VERY wealthy ownership/management seems to have lost their regard for the people who pay their bills.

The site has been plagued with outages, near outages and significant performance problems all summer. "Customer support" is essentially a relatively small catalog of canned response messages sent out in response to scanning messages for keywords.

The "whiners" you deride are a symptom of a serious fundamental management problem at ebay. The problem isn't the imposition of the $1 fee, it's the lack of serious consideration given to the myriad of other problems the much-touted "community" faces and then acting as if they can do whatever they want whenever they want without regard to their customer or their customer's real problems.
