Kap,

"I get it. The HP customers are recommended to skip Merced, but IBM and SUN customers are encouraged to
embrace it."

Well.. isn't that funny. UltraSparc III based boxes are
due to roll shortly after 2000... IBM is betwixt with
Power4 due in 2001 .. no slouch with bus speed at 500 MHz.

At FRS the OS's aren't there for Merced it appears. Oh
sure, they have been ported but you downshift from UltraSparc III for Merced, you downshift from PA-RISC
(8600) for Merced. Win64? Maybe. Williamette will
be out and right up there with Merced on the integer
side...

Merced is an interesting study. What to do what to do.
Certainly not HP/UX. Maybe some other loser OS.

Well put! If AMD were in a similar situation they will be laughed at. Because it is Intel this has become a debatable issue.

I had better expectations for Merced than what it is turning out to be. With at least a year to go for production it can't even compare with K7-650 (i.e., probably Athlon Ultra 600)
