USS To Loan Out PCs For Free To Promote Net Used Car Sales

TOKYO (Nikkei)--USS Co., a Nagoya operator of used-car auctions, will loan out personal computers free of charge to members that participate in its Internet used-car broker sales operations, slated to begin next spring.

The company also plans to hold down other costs, keeping monthly membership fees down to 9,800 yen.

USS aims to boost interest in the upcoming service by creating a user-friendly system. It hopes to win over 10,000 corporate participants, creating the largest service of its kind in Japan.

In May, USS set up USS CarBankNet with CarPoint Japan KK, an automobile broker affiliated with Softbank Corp. (9984). Consumers will be able to access the service through CarPoint's Web site for information on used cars.

USS is Japan's largest used-car auction company with about 19,000 member companies
